AFI’s 100
Years… 100 Songs

The Best Movie Songs of All-time

In June 2004, the American Film Institute revealed their list of the top
movie songs of all time. To meet the AFI’s criteria, eligible songs
contained music and lyrics and were featured in an American feature-length
film in a way that set a tone or mood, defined character, advanced plot,
and/or expressed the film’s themes in a manner that elevated the moving
image art form. They were songs that have captured the nation’s heart and
resonate across the century, enriching America’s film heritage and
captivating artists and audiences today.
