Sophia Loren broke into tears at an awards ceremony Saturday as she recalled her climb to fame from the gritty Neapolitan suburb where she grew up.

“Lady History was generous to the girl from Pozzuoli, and I thank her together with all of you,” Loren said, her voice breaking with sobs, at the award ceremony in Rome’s City Hall.

The city honored Loren with the Campidoglio (City Hall) prize, describing her as “not only an icon of cinema, but a very synonym of Italy, of that Italy made up of elegance, passion, genius, humanity and beauty.”

Us has confirmed from multiple sources that Lopez is about four months pregnant with her first child. Or children – a source tells Us Lopez’s mother, Guadalupe, 61, “is proudly telling people she’s having twins.”

The 38-year-old singer-actress, who has long expressed her desire to have both career and kids, is ecstatic about the news.

“It’s a dream come true,” a Lopez source tells Us. “She and Marc are over the moon.”

Pregnancy news is especially sweet for Lopez, whom insiders believed was unable to carry a child at all. “[Conceiving] was a struggle for her,” says a source.

Seconds another, “This pregnancy is a miracle.”

Potential jurors in a Los Angeles court were forced to do a double-take on Thursday when their court-room duties were enlivened by a jolt of star power in the shape of Brad Pitt.

The Hollywood heart-throb reported for jury duty in Los Angeles, his publicist confirmed to AFP, before eventually being discharged after the case he was due to hear ended in a plea-deal.

I’m trying to be a celebrity/entertainment blogger and I’m burnt out. I have stirred clear of the whole Eddie Murphy - Mel B saga, and have only sporadically written about Lindsay or Britney or Nicole. Yeah whether I mention them or not, we all know just about everything that’s going on with them. Sad, but an interesting commentary on our culture.

Over the past month or two, I decided to revive this blog from the pit of death. I’m still searching for an identity here. There are plenty of great blogs out there that cover the scandal and virtually every move a celebrity makes. I don’t have the time or the resources for that. I would like to focus more on the “quirkiness” of celebrities. I do love movies, so posts in that area will increase. Also I need to get a grip on what’s happening in music today because I have lost touch. I haven’t added anything new to my iPod in months. Anyway, I guess I’ll do what feels right for me, and hopefully pick up one or two readers on the way.

“Welcome to Venezuela, Mr. Penn. What drives him is consciousness, the search for new paths,” Chavez said Wednesday in a televised speech. “He’s one of the greatest opponents of the Iraq invasion.”

Chavez read aloud from a recent open letter by Penn to President Bush in which the actor condemned the Iraq war and called for Bush to be impeached, saying the president along with Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are “villainously and criminally obscene people.”

Hmmm, I may not agree with everything this administration is doing (or even very little) but referring to the leaders of our country in such a derogatory manner even ruffles my liberal feathers, and becoming the “tool” of Chavez (shakes head).

Apparently this is not a joke as Hilton will co-star with Paul Sorvino and Alexa Vega in “Repo! The Genetic Opera,” which begins shooting in September in Canada.

The horror rock opera, based on a stage musical, is set in a plague-ravaged future where people can purchase new organs on the installment plan from a corporation called Geneco. The catch is that if the payments stop, the organs are repossessed.

Hilton will portray the fame-seeking daughter of Geneco’s owner (Sorvino).

“We saw many actresses for the role, and Paris sang it better than all of them,” producer Carl Mazzocone told the Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety in Monday editions.

The director, Darren Lynn Bousman, also praised Hilton.

“I have auditioned at least 30 actresses for this role — Paris came in and owned it,” he told Variety. “She is this role.”

Um… It’s possible. Playing a “fame-seeking daughter” shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for Hilton.

Reynolds, 45, said she was “intentionally evasive” over the last four years about how she lost the 160 lbs (73 kg).

“I was scared of what people might think of me,” Reynolds wrote in an essay for the September issue of Glamour magazine. “I was afraid to be vulnerable.”

Um, who didn’t think she had the surgery. Not much of a confession - more self-created drama than anything else.

Sutter and her husband Ryan, a firefighter she met on the show, revealed the news to US Weekly earlier today.

Their baby boy, whom they have named Maxwell Alston Sutter, weighed in at 5 pounds and 3 ounces.

“It took us a long time to get pregnant so it makes it that much sweeter,” Trista previously told the magazine. “It’s my dream to be a mom.”

Trista and Ryan were married on TV in 2003.

The men who say they were unwilling passengers on Lindsay Lohan’s wild ride through Santa Monica have retained a lawyer who said he hopes to resolve the case without hauling the actress into court.

Attorney Randall Billington told The Associated Press on Friday that he has been retained by Dante Nigro and Jakon Sutter, who say they pleaded with Lohan to stop as she raced along the Pacific Coast Highway at 100 mph before dawn Tuesday. He is also representing Ronnie Blake, who says Lohan drove Nigro’s sport-utility vehicle over his foot as she raced off with the vehicle. [cha-ching]

“She says, ‘I can’t get in trouble, I’m a celebrity, I can do whatever the … I want,” Nigro said.

As she spoke with police, Nigro said, Lohan tried to implicate Sutter.

“We can hear her saying, ‘No, no, I wasn’t driving, the black kid was driving,” he said. [double cha-ching]

Sutter and Blake are black, and Nigro is white.

Nicole Richie pleaded guilty Friday to driving under the influence of drugs and was sentenced to 90 hours in jail and fined $2,048 by a judge who said she was lucky nobody was killed when she drove the wrong way on a freeway.

She was ordered to enroll in a second-offender drug and alcohol program and must prove that she completed it by Feb. 20, 2008.

“You are not to drive with any measurable amount of alcohol or drugs in your system,” Lubell told her. “You are not to drive without a driver’s license.”
