Banning Cell Phones From Movie Theaters

Over on the Movie Blog, they attempt to make the case for banning cell phones in movie theaters.
I’m sorry but I’m not down with the idea of turning over my cell phone to a movie desk or being searched (heaven forbid) to make sure that I don’t have a cellphone. Most of the bad behavior in movie theaters that I have observed is not cell-phone related. It’s mostly screaming babies, if anything, and usually the mom or dad ushers the baby out. Because I typically go to the movies in the afternoon, I think maybe folks are better behaved compared to the evening or late-night crowd. (just wondering)
I have never believed that you can legislate good behavior. You can definitely do things to encourage good behavior, like the reminders to silence your cellphone, which always get me to check my phone. But these knee jerk all-or-nothing solutions that infringe on the rights of non-offenders never do any good.
